JVC to support AMWA 'MXF for Production' Project

GY-HM650 PROHD CAMCORDER USES ALL-IN-ONE CONTAINER MXF FILE

Sydney, Australia, 15th, May 2012 – JVC Professional has announced its intention to support the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) “AS-10: MXF for Production” project with its new GY-HM650 ProHD handheld mobile news camera, which was demonstrated at the 2012 NAB Show (Booth C4314) in Las Vegas, Nev., April 16-19. The project is designed to establish a common MXF file format for a typical end-to-end production workflow.

With built-in FTP and Wi-Fi connectivity, the GY-HM650 camcorder is designed to shoot and deliver news footage faster than ever. It records HD or SD footage in multiple file formats to non-proprietary SDHC or SDXC media cards, including MXF files with rich descriptive metadata that is optimized for news production workflow. Metadata can be sent to the camcorder from a WiFi connected device, such as an iPhone or Android smartphone, using JVC developed apps or received from the news desk editor via FTP.

“An all-in-one container MXF file ‘watermarked’ with rich descriptive metadata, which is introduced at acquisition by the camcorder, is carried throughout the entire workflow from NLEs to playout servers. AS-10 compliant equipment and software preserve image quality and metadata that is critical for automated asset management solutions,” explained Edgar Shane, JVC general manager, engineering. “Upon completion of AS-10 certification, we expect wide penetration of this equipment into enterprise workflows with emphasis on speed, quality, and reliable asset management and archival.”

Established in 2000 as the Advanced Authoring Format (AAF) Association, AMWA’s mission is to develop and advance the use of media standards and technology to enable more effective file-based media workflows. A co-creator of MXF, AMWA works for compatibility between AAF, BXF, MXF, and XML For more information, visit www.amwa.tv.
